Blue Sotogrande Marina Shopping – the Prestigious Estate Receives a Heart
Thousands of Europe’s most affluent residents live in the 2,000 hectare resort of Sotogrande on the southernmost tip of the Costa del Sol. The prestigious community famed for its 683-berth marina, world-famous polo fields and so-called ‘Golden Triangle of Golf’ (San Roque, Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande), retains the thoughtful boulevard-style planning inspired by Joseph McMickin when he conceived the resort back in 1962. But amongst the villas and fairways, beaches and waterways there’s always been something missing – shopping. Enter Blue Sotogrande.
Blue Sotogrande is a chic new retail concept occupying the entire ground floor of the Ribera del Marlin project, the last destined by the Sotogrande authorities for the marina itself. With 41 units and 500 metres of water frontage Blue Sotogrande plugs a vast gap in Sotogrande’s offering for a heart to the community, a meeting place for residents and visitors alike. The result of 37 million euros worth of investment, the centre is expected to open in Easter 2009 and symbolically bring to an end the need to leap in the car for a drive just to pick up a daily newspaper or bouquet of flowers.
Gavin Gallagher, the Dublin-based developer of Blue Sotogrande, has a holiday home here in Sotogrande and has always rued the lack of proper shopping facilities and more importantly a sense of community. Gavin comments, “Blue Sotogrande plans to have a great selection of units from a convenience store for a pint of milk to a newsagents and chemist. We’re saying ‘no’ to real estate and yacht brokers as there are plenty in the eastern portion of the marina and also controlling quality by only allowing rental rather than leasehold. Other key features will be a safe children’s play area away from traffic and a small permanent entertainment facility for concerts or exhibitions serving to unite the community further.”
In keeping with Sotogrande’s ethos Blue Sotogrande’s marina shopping experience will be aesthetically pleasing. All of the units are frontline to the quayside and the restaurants will have wide external terrace seating to take in the warm sunshine and relaxing views. Deliveries and parking will be kept underground out of sight alongside ample storage facilities.
Carrington Estates has a range of plots for sale in La Reserva de Sotogrande at the top of the Sotogrande estate. Many with frontline views of the 18-hole Cabell Robinson-designed golf course, prices start from around 450,000 euros for a 3,500m˛ plot with a generous build ratio of 25%.
